Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter

We've all seen the commercial for the upside down tomato plant. Well, I'd like to share what I've learned first hand. When planting, DO NOT USE garden soil in planter. Only use potting soil. I used garden soil and it was about 50 lbs. I decided to hang it from a plant hanger on my garage. When my husband watered it yesterday, it got so heavy that it ripped the plant hanger right off the garage wall. Now I realized it was heavy when I originally hung it, but my husband normally does everything to extremes. So my thought was elephants could hand off of the plant hangers and not pull it down.

My suggestion if you plan on trying the Topsy Turvy, after planting with potting soil which is lighter that garden soil, make sure you hang it on a very study hook.

  1. I had the same problem, once I filled it up with garden soil it was way too heavy to hang up. I have it hanging on my fence right now,I was waiting for my husband to hang it up on the garage for me but now I'm not so sure I even want to do that. My garage is so old it might pull down the roof. So far that thing has been a big disapointment. We'll see how it works once it starts produces.
